Zhang Ning of China, known as Badminton Queen is the only player of either sex to win consecutive Olympic singles gold medals in 2004 and 2008. She is known for her consistency of shot, deception and constant pressure, dictating the pace of rallies and working her opponents in all four corners of the court. Her biggest asset was her confidence and her pride in being a Chinese.
“My confidence make me a winner…I always have the confidence whenever I go into a tournament,” says Zhang Ning.
After the 2008 Olympic victory, she told the media, “We, the Chinese women, we just do our best. Every player who enters the national team play on behalf of China instead of yourself. I have told four years ago that an Olympic gold medal was good, but securing the gold for China was above all.”
Self-confidence is one of the most admired attitudes in a person. One cannot be self-confident without adequate preparation, practice or experience. A self-confident person believes in his or her strengths and abilities and does not become overwhelmed by low self-esteem and doubt. People who exhibit self-confidence do not seek the approval of others but are ambitious, and seek challenges.
